Long Island forecast: After heat, heavy rain, weather improves
An oppressive weekend – the two hottest days in three years – followed by drenching rain and flash flooding that snarled the Tuesday morning commute.
Enough with the drama! How about a stretch of sunny days and seasonable temperatures in the 80s?
If you’re a fan of cooler, comfortable weather, “this is going to be your week,” said Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 meteorologist.
As of the Tuesday forecast, it looks like a run from Wednesday right through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Overnight Tuesday could bring some fog and chances of scattered showers. But on Wednesday morning, clouds should begin diminishing to allow the afternoon sun to emerge, Von Ohlen said.
Expect temperatures to rise to around 80 degrees, with much lower humidity. Normal for the day at Long Island MacArthur Airport is 82 degrees, with 67 the normal low.
From there, it’s more of the same, as the weather service says, “high pressure remains over the area into the weekend” — which is the last one in July.

We get a slight uptick in temperatures, to the mid-80s or so, by the weekend.
“Sunny, dry, not too humid,” Von Ohlen said. “A great week to wash the car.”
