The Long Island forecast calls for a cool down Monday night under partly cloudy skies with heat and sun Tuesday and a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, according to National Weather Service.

After a mix of sun and clouds with a high that topped out at about 80 degrees Monday, the temperature should dip to 68 at night under partly cloudy skies, the weather service said.

The calendar will read "July 20" on Tuesday and the weather on Long Island will feel like it.

The high Tuesday will be 88 with a south wind of between 5 and 8 mph. The low Tuesday is forecast to drop to 72 under partly cloudy skies.

Showers and thunderstorms could return Wednesday when there will be a 50% chance of precipitation after 11 a.m., the weather service said. The system should have cleared most of Long Island by sunset when the skies will be partly cloudy with a low of 66.

Thursday looks mostly sunny with a high in the upper 80s before a 30% chance of showers returns after 2 p.m. Friday with similar temperatures.

Sunny skies and a high in the lower 80s is forecast for Saturday, the weather service said.
