The Yankees should fare better, with a scheduled 4 p.m. Opening Day start against the Astros in Houston.

The weather service is predicting about an inch of rain between Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning, with a storm system moving up the East Coast that appears to be bearing rain and thunderstorms. Areas of heavy rain are possible, as are flood conditions.

For now, the Mets are slated to start Jose Quintana, with Freddy Peralta starting for the Brewers.

The Mets went 75-87 last season, 29 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. The Yankees? They went 82-80, finishing 19 games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East.

But on Opening Day, hope springs eternal for fans of any baseball team.
