Sunday's weather on Long Island looks like it will be similar to what Long Island got Saturday: dry and warm.
It is not until Monday that any rain is expected.
The National Weather Service forecast Saturday evening called for Sunday to be partly sunny with a high temperature of about 81 degrees. The average high temperature for the date in Islip is 83 degrees.
Saturday the temperature in Islip topped out at 80 degrees under a cloudy sky at noontime.
The wind Sunday should be out of the east at just 5 to 9 mph.
Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 72 degrees, the weather service said.
"We’re dry for the weekend, so that’s good," weather service meteorologist Bill Goodman said, adding that temperatures "may be just a little bit cooler right at the immediate shore because the water temperatures are cooler. So, it might be more like the upper 70s right at the water."
Temperatures will remain in the lower 80s on Monday. The dry conditions will persist on Monday morning, but there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., according to the weather service forecast.
"Monday we have a chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm in the afternoon," Goodman said. "Usually here on Long Island [heavy rainfall] tends to be later in the afternoon, especially the farther east you go."
The forecast for Tuesday calls for sunny skies with a high temperature near 88 degrees.
