Enter Saturday, with temperatures in the high 50s, possibly even rising to the low 60s if winds cooperate, forecasters say.

Enter Sunday and Monday, when temperatures dip to the low-to-mid 40s and mid-30s respectively, as polar air takes the stage.

"Spring will do that," said Tim Morrin, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.

All that sets the stage for uncertainty Tuesday into Wednesday, as there's potential for "a very strong ocean storm," based on Friday afternoon signals, he said: The big questions are, "Where does it develop and where does it move?"

Most Long Islanders would presumably be rooting for it to waver farther to the east, meaning less or no impact.

As for precipitation types, he said, there's no issue: "It's a snow event, if it happens."

As of Friday, the weather service was forecasting a 40 percent chance for snow on Tuesday, 50 percent chance Tuesday night and 30 percent chance Wednesday morning, Morrin said.
