Long Island should see normal temperatures in the 40s on Saturday ahead of rain on Sunday night and possible snow on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
About 1 to 1 ½ inches of rain will begin falling late Sunday night, according to weather service meteorologist Joe Pollina.
The rain is expected to continue through Monday, tapering off around daybreak on Tuesday and could produce snowflakes over western portions of the Island late Monday night, Pollina said.
"Other than that, it’s an all-rain event with possibly some isolated thunderstorms," Pollina said. "We are not looking for any accumulating snow."
Pollina said temperatures this weekend would range from the upper 40s to upper 50s.
On Sunday, the weather service expects temperatures in the mid-40s and then a slight warming to mid-to-upper 50s ahead of the approaching cold front, he said. Because of the relatively colder waters, temperatures will likely be slightly lower along the coastline, Pollina said.
