LI weather: Mostly sunny with chance of rain after 2 p.m. Sunday
It might be worth remembering the old saying "April showers bring May flowers" as the next few days mix sunny spring weather with the possibility of occasional periods of rain.
The National Weather Service on Saturday evening said Long Island will see mostly sunny skies Sunday, but with a 20% chance of showers after 2 p.m. The high temperature should be about 53 degrees, which would be 3 degrees below normal in Islip for the date. A west wind should blow at 10 to 16 mph Sunday.
Sunday night is expected to be mostly clear with a low temperature of around 38 degrees.
As for the new workweek, Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be at least partly sunny and precipitation-free, but Tuesday and Thursday will be mostly cloudy with 30% chances of rain, the weather service said.
High temperatures are expected to be in the mid-50s on Monday and Wednesday and the low 60s on Thursday and Friday. The weather service says the thermometer could reach a balmy 71 degrees.
