Sunday could be another wet day on Long Island, but the rest of the week looks to be precipitation-free, if seasonably cool.

After Saturday brought rain and a temperature drop following several days of springlike weather last week, the National Weather Service said Saturday night that there will be a 30% chance of light rain Sunday before 7 a.m. The skies are expected to gradually clear but the temperature will fall to around 37 degrees by 5 p.m. A north wind should blow at 11 to 17 mph.

The weather service said Sunday night will be mostly clear, with a low of only around 24 degrees. That's colder than the normal low for the date in Islip — 29 degrees — but at least it's nowhere near as cold as the bone-chilling 9 degrees that set a record in 1989.

Monday is expected to be sunny with a high near 40, while Tuesday, the first official day of winter should be mostly sunny with a high near 45.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40s, the weather service said.

The early word on Saturday, Christmas Day, is that it will be partly sunny with a high temperature near 47 degrees.
