Long Island forecast: Sunny but cold with slightly higher temperatures to come

Frigid temperatures will continue this weekend on Long Island with another chance of snow Monday, followed by a slight warm-up later in the week.
Forecasters called for Sunday to be dry, sunny and clear with a high of 31 degrees and wind chill values between 10 and 20 degrees. Winds are expected to be light and variable becoming easterly around 6 mph in the morning.
Lows Sunday night will dip down to the teens. The National Weather Service dubbed the temperatures "unseasonably chilly."
Monday is expected to be dreary with a wintry mix of rain and snow, according to the weather service. The high for the day will reach 41 degrees. Rain and snow, with a possibility of freezing rain, are possible before 1 p.m. and rain is likely afterward.
Little to no accumulation of ice is likely, the weather service said. Snow could accumulate to less than half an inch.
The rain is expected to drag into Tuesday morning when forecasters predict a slight chance of snow before 7 a.m. Tuesday’s high will reach 40 degrees.
The rest of the week looks clear and sunny with highs in the low 40s and lows hovering around freezing. While a cold front is expected to pass through the region Thursday and Saturday, forecasters aren’t expecting rain.
