Long Island weather: Brief rain on Saturday, followed by sunshine on Sunday
Overcast skies kicked off the weekend on Saturday but a brief period of rain is expected over Long island by the afternoon, according to meteorologists.
Temperatures will hit a high of 73 before a cold front lowers temperatures to about 56 this evening. There is also a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon into the evening. The storm could bring winds with gusts as high as 21 mph, forecasters said.
But gloomy weather is not expected to linger.
"It looks like it will be moderate rain and should move through fairly quickly," said Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. Less than a tenth of an inch of rainfall is expected.
Clouds are forecast to break for sun on Sunday with a high of 72 and an low of 52.
"Tomorrow will be nice and refreshing, ” Engle said.
The rest of the week is expected to be sunny and dry with temperatures warming up into the high 70s and low 80s.
