Breezy, dry conditions could enhance the spread of brush fires Monday on Long Island, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement.

The Upton-based service's statement covers most of Nassau and Suffolk counties and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey.

The combination of northwest winds likely gusting from 25 to 30 mph, dry air mass and low relative humidity enhance the risk of "brush fire spread," the service said.

Anyone spotting a fire or smoke plume should immediately report it to authorities, the service said.
