No accumulating snow forecast for Long Island as cold temperatures continue, weather service says

Long Island will not get hit with more snow this weekend as the freezing temperatures continue for the region, according to National Weather Service meteorologist James Tomasini.
A bomb cyclone that had threatened the Island with more snow will largely miss the region, although the East End could get a dusting on Sunday morning, Tomasini said.
"That storm that’s going to form offshore ... It’s going to pass well to our south and east," Tomasini told Newsday. "We still have some chances for light snow, mainly under 30%. But if there is going to be any accumulation, maybe Montauk would get a tenth of an inch."
However, the weather service said a cold weather advisory was in effect, and it warned that wind chills could reach as low as -15 degrees and cause hypothermia if precautions aren’t taken.
"The cold continues today and tomorrow," Tomasini said early Saturday morning. "Right now, we’re seeing temperatures across Suffolk County in the single digits to even below zero. The Westhampton Airport is reporting -8 degrees — and that’s air temperature, not wind chill."
Saturday will be partly sunny with high temperatures in the low 20s. Sunday’s temperature will be almost identical, but with mostly cloudy conditions.
Temperatures are expected to rise during the first half of next week, but they still are not likely to break past the freezing point, according to Tomasini.
"It looks like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we’ll be back up into the lower 30s across the area, but still could be below freezing here," he said. "It might feel like a bit of a warm-up, but it’s still well below normal."
When asked why the region has been stuck below freezing, Tomasini said: "It’s really just the current pattern that we’re in. We’re kind of getting these repetitive shots of cold, arctic air."
