Long Island weather: Wednesday to be milder, but windy

Looking ahead to a string of cooler than normal days, Wednesday stands out as one that’s set to be on the milder side, forecasters say.

With the area frequently seeing highs around the mid-40s at Long Island MacArthur Airport — and looking at more of the same — Wednesday was forecast to head up to around 60 degrees, the National Weather Service said. The airport’s normal high for the day is 54 degrees, with the normal low 37.

Still, that comes with the likelihood for spring showers and some areas of morning fog, also with potential for a thunderstorm in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Winds pick up, as well, with a wind advisory issued for Nassau County from 1 p.m. to midnight — and from 2 p.m. to midnight for Suffolk, with potential gusts up to 50 mph.

Apart from Wednesday, “temperatures remain below normal,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Thursday was expected to bring sunny skies, with temperatures in the now-familiar mid-40s.

Unsettled conditions return for Friday, with chances of rain and showers, but heading up to the low 50s during the day. Temperatures drop quickly, though, as the overnight hours into Saturday morning bring chances of light snow, the weather service said.
