The weekend on Long Island should finish out Sunday with more sun and more humidity, according to the National Weather Service.
On Saturday, the thermometer in Islip topped out at 81 degrees just before 2 p.m. under a mostly sunny sky.
Temperatures will dip into the low 70s Saturday night , the weather service said.
Sunday, the high temperature is expected to be about 88 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The average high for the date in Islip is 82 degrees.
A south wind will blow Sunday at 7 to 15 mph, the weather service said.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Sunday night with the chance of precipitation pegged at 40%. The low temperature should be about 68 degrees.
That slight chance of rain will continue into Monday, when temperatures are expected to be in the upper 70s.
The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Monday because of an uptick in rip currents on the South Shore, which weather service meteorologist James Connolly said would be caused by Hurricane Erin.
"The hazardous weather outlook is for the chances for increasing rip currents as we get into Monday," he said. "That’s from ... waves from Hurricane Erin."
In addition to the high surf and dangerous rip currents, the weather service said, there is a chance of beach erosion and minor coastal flooding during high tide Tuesday through Friday, with seas swelling to 10 to 15 feet in the middle of the week.
