Wednesday weather: Mostly sunny, less humid on Long Island

Wednesday works out to be somewhat less humid, but still a mostly sunny summer day, thanks to weak high pressure building over Long Island.

The National Weather Service's Upton office said there could be some isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, but the Wednesday forecast is for high temperatures approaching 90, with light, variable winds from the west at 6 to 11 mph.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said there will be some clouds Wednesday and agreed it will be less humid, too.

Nighttime temperatures could get into the mid-60s, Hoffman said, with winds shifting slightly to the northwest.

Thursday and Friday also are expected to be mostly sunny and just a bit cooler, in the low to mid-80s.

There's also a chance of rain Friday into Saturday, but Hoffman said most weather models seem to show precipitation staying well south of Long Island.
