Long Island can expect a stretch of mostly dry yet cold conditions for the first weekend of 2026, after some areas received a slight accumulation of snow early Friday.
Up to 1 inch of frost graced parts of the North Shore and the East End between 2 and 4 a.m. Friday, adding to accumulated snow from New Year’s Day, the National Weather Service reported.
Meteorologist Dave Radell said there's a slight chance of snow Saturday night into early Sunday, but it most likely will not amount to more than a dusting.
"At this point, it does not look like much," Radell said. "That's really the only chance of anything through the first or middle part of next week."
Temperatures will remain below average through the weekend with highs in the low 30s on Friday and Saturday.
But with wind chill values, temperatures will feel between 10 and 20 on Friday and 15 and 20 on Saturday, the service said.
Conditions will begin to warm slightly on Sunday with temperatures in the low-to-mid-30s.
Temperatures will increase to average a little each day into midweek, with highs in the mid-30s by Monday and in the low 40s on Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday will see highs in the mid-40s.
