Wet, blanket weather ahead for Long Islanders
A midsummer nighttime chill early this week will have some Long Islanders reaching for a blanket.
Low temperatures are slated to dip into the 50s Sunday night, capping off a warm, dry day on Sunday, said Dan Hofmann, meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Upton bureau.
Sunday's highs will be around 80, with sunny skies and much less humidity than the previous day, Hofmann said.
Sunday afternoon will see a slight chance of a thunderstorm, while the evening will be mostly clear, with lows between 55 and 60 degrees for most of the Island, he said -- about 5 to 10 degrees below normal.
Temperatures will dip into the lower 50s in the pine barrens.
Highs for the rest of the week will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s, Hofmann said, while lows will be in the 60s.
But as soon as Long Islanders ditch the blanket, they'll need to grab an umbrella -- a frontal system that will stall over the area beginning Tuesday will bring chances of rain through Friday, Hofmann said.
"It's not going to be a complete washout," he said. "It won't be raining the whole time, but the potential is there."
