It'll be a bright, clear day Sunday -- with little sign of the strong wind gusts that knocked out power to hundreds of Long Islanders on Saturday.

Temperatures on Sunday were expected to be around 40 degrees, with wind gusts of 10 to 15 miles per hour, said Joey Picca, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

That's a far cry from Saturday's gusts, which reached 59 miles per hour in Eaton's Neck, 54 miles per hour in Bayville and Jones Beach, and 48 miles per hour at Gilgo Beach.

The Long Island Power Authority had reported 762 customers without power due to wind on Saturday; that number had dwindled to nine by noon on Sunday.

Sunday's low temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s -- close to normal temperatures for this time of year, Picca said. But come Monday, Long Island will see some of the higher temperatures that have characterized this winter season: temperatures will hover in the low 50s.

Tuesday is slated to be dry and colder, but by Tuesday night into Wednesday Long Island likely will see some precipitation -- possibly frozen, Picca said. Highs will drop to the upper 30s, slowly warming as the week progresses, Picca said.

Just 0.6 inches of snow has fallen on Long Island this month; the average February snowfall for Islip is 6.7 inches.
