Long Island weather: Cold temperatures to continue
Temperatures overnight may be heading down to the midteens by daybreak Friday, forecasters say.
And Friday, with partly sunny skies, may see temperatures warm up only to around freezing, as well as a slight chance for snow in the afternoon and nighttime hours.
But if we can tolerate multiple layers just a bit longer, forecasters are also calling for a gradual warming spell.
That’s as high pressure builds, “allowing temperatures to begin to moderate,” the National Weather Service said in its regional summary.
“Stays cold through [the] weekend,” then, “a warm-up next week,” is how Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist, puts it.
Saturday, certainly still on the brisk side, is expected to see mostly sunny skies with temperatures rising to around 37 degrees, the weather service said..
However, Sunday, also mostly sunny, could make it up to 40 degrees or so, with no wind chill.
And, while it may not be Miami Beach warm, Monday and Tuesday were looking at highs in the mid- and upper 40s, with 42 the normal high at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
