A wintry mix of snow, then rain, could make for difficult commuting on Long Island Tuesday, forecasters said.

The snowfall is expected to be light on Long Island but could cause travel difficulties through the morning, the National Weather Service said.

The precipitation is the result of a warm front approaching the tristate area from the south and will likely bring the wintry mix to coastal areas across the region, including Long Island, the service said in a statement early Tuesday.

Inland locations north and west of New York City could see worse, with snow, freezing rain and then plain rain into the evening.

The snow is expected to arrive on Long Island around 8 a.m. and continue before changing over to rain around midday. High temperatures will reach near 39 degrees with wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees, Snow accumulations will be negligible.

The rain could continue overnight, giving way to a partly sunny Wednesday with highs in the upper 40s.

At 8 a.m., Republic Airport in East Farmingdale was reporting 29 degrees with overcast skies. MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma reported  29 degrees and overcast.

At Kennedy Airport it was 35 and overcast.
