With temps above freezing, rain prevails Wednesday
Warmer temperatures on Long Island will bring rain instead of snow -- that's Wednesday's good weather news.
Wednesday is expected to be a day of rain, with high temperatures in the mid-40s, the service said.
The service's Upton office earlier warned of black ice, due to rain and melted snow, forming during the morning commute. "Extra caution is advised while walking and driving through mid-Wednesday morning," the service said.
By late morning, as temperatures rose above freezing, the weather service said, the rain could make streams and rivers susceptible to ice-jam flooding.
Rainfall amounts could be high as one-quarter inch, and the chance of precipitation ranges from 90 percent during the day to 20 percent at night, the service said.
Rain and melting snow also could cause more "snow laden flat-roof structures to collapse," the service said.
