WEST BANK: Jewish settlers ordered out

The Israeli military ordered about 70 Jewish settlers to leave a building they occupied last week in the heart of Hebron, an order that could lead to a violent confrontation with one of the most militant settler communities. Hebron settler leaders said about 10 Jewish families entered the building after it was purchased legally from a Palestinian landowner. A spokesman, Shlomo Levinger, said they moved in in the dead of night because the Palestinian Authority had learned of the purchase and planned to take it over.

COLOMBIA: FARC frees last 10 captives

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as FARC, freed what it says were its last 10 soldier and police captives Monday, all of whom were held in jungle prisons for at least 12 years. The release of six police and four soldiers highlighted efforts to seek peace talks by the guerrillas, weakened in recent years by Colombia's U.S.-backed military.

Just 12 days after they stormed the presidential palace, the young officers who seized control of Mali in a coup were slapped Monday with harsh financial sanctions that could cause the country to run out of gasoline. The body representing West Africa nations announced it was closing their land borders with Mali immediately.

MYANMAR: Stunning victory confirmed

Election officials confirmed Monday that Aung San Suu Kyi's opposition party won a landslide victory in historic by-elections, taking 40 of 45 seats at stake. "The success we are having is the success of the people," Suu Kyi told a sea of supporters.

MEXICO: 6.3 aftershock jolts capital

Mexico City was shaken Monday afternoon by an apparent aftershock, magnitude 6.3, from last month's earthquake. There were no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.
