Weekend events net $30G for Alzheimer’s

A weekend walk and clambake in downtown Riverhead raised more than $30,000 for Alzheimer’s disease research, with a crowd of more than 200 people walking down East Main Street, starting at Grangebel Park and ending at the Long Island Aquarium.

Riverhead officials said the walk beat the goal of $25,000. It took place on Sunday, to mark the one-year anniversary of the Alzheimer’s Association of Long Island office in Southampton, a national organization that provides support groups, counseling and other services to families of Alzheimer’s patients.

About 60,000 people living on Long Island suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, according to the association.
