The farm stands are bursting with pumpkins, and the corn mazes are up. It's peak off-season on the North Fork, the sunniest region of New York State. Here are three dependable restaurants to try while you're wandering from Riverhead to Orient.

Coronet luncheonette has been cooking homey American dishes since 1949, at the corner of Front and Main in Greenport. Open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cash only. Try the waffles or pancakes, meatloaf or grilled cheese. Enjoy the nostalgia.

Grana in Jamesport is a destination for pizzas, expertly made. You can sample the Margherita and be content, but also try the Rosa Bianca pie, with red onion, Parmesan cheese, sliced potato and rosemary. Or the pie with mozzarella, fennel sausage and onion.

Modern Snack Bar has drawn customers since 1950, for meatloaf with gravy, sauerbraten with red cabbage, and for an early Thanksgiving dinner, roast turkey with cranberry sauce. Be sure to buy the peerless mashed turnips for your own autumn feasts. Good pies, too.
