West 14th St. stabbing may have been a case of mistaken identity
Police are investigating the possibility that the murder of popular West Harrison soccer coach Michael Jones on West 14th St. early Sunday morning was motivated by the mistaken belief he was involved in a bar fight over a woman.
"There may have been a 'discussion' with a woman that (the suspect) met in a bar," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday, according to DNAinfo. "We don't believe at this time that (Jones) was involved with the fight with the perpetrator in that bar," Kelly added.
The New York Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of death in the horrific slashing before 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, "was a stab wound to the torso that penetrated the heart," said spokeswoman Ellen Borakove.
A memorial for Jones will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the First Baptist Church, 456 North St., in White Plains.
