To Scott Craig, the chance to earn his 400th victory Thursday meant one thing.
"All it really means is that I'm old," he said.
But like a fine wine, some things get better with age. The Craig-led Lions are one of them, as they defeated Connetquot 13-7 yesterday in Division I boys lacrosse to give the 25-year coach his milestone victory.
Anthony DeLuca had three goals and three assists, and Brendan Smith added two goals and three assists for the Lions (14-0).
West Islip started off slowly with only two goals in the first quarter, but outscored Connetquot 11-5 in the second and third quarters to pull through.
"We weren't firing on all cylinders early on," Craig said. "But I think we did a good job of cutting down on our mistakes in the third quarter and really pulled away then." Craig did take a moment to reflect on the milestone, crediting his longtime staff of assistants and the overall support he's received from the community.
