Westbury budget includes tax levy hike

The Village of Westbury board of trustees has approved a budget of $7.5 million that includes a tax levy increase of 1.72 percent, well below the village’s state tax cap of 3.5 percent.
The average homeowner, with an assessed value of $346,390, will pay an additional $28, from $966 during the current fiscal year to $994 for 2013-14.
Village Mayor Peter Cavallaro explained that the budget is a 3.33 percent increase, or $243,448, over 2012-13. Cavallaro noted the village must pay $50,934 more for the cost of employee medical coverage. It also must contribute an additional $85,991 to the state retirement system, he said.
The village’s fiscal year begins June 1.
