Joy Behar, who immortalized her rescue dog, Max in two children’s books -- "Sheetzucacapoopoo: My Kind of Dog" and S"heetzucacapoopoo 2: Max Goes to the Dogs" -- hosted Southampton Animal Shelter’s first fundraiser Saturday in Southampton.

He has been gone for five years. Now she shares two rescue dogs with her daughter that came from a Canadian Bide A Wee. “They needed to be rescued from Canada,” she quipped. Besides, it’s easy. Her daughter lives in the same building. “We’re co-parents, but she’s the alpha,” Behar told us. “They’re on the bed with her and her husband constantly.”

Even Michelle Obama knows, it’s so much better when you can leave your kids with your Mom during the week.

Weekends in the Hamptons are pretty much spent vegging by the pool. “I don’t come here for sports of any of that stuff," Behar told us. "I don’t really go to the ocean. I have friends over and I just swim and hang by the pool. What she loves the most? “I’m fortunate out here because my mind can drift. I don’t worry about the world affairs, which I’m constantly on top of in my job.”

It’s not just one job. She logs five hours a week live on the “View” and hosts her own show on HLN (formerly Headline News). It's a big ratings winner, prompting her name to be bandied about as a possible replacement for Larry King.
