Everything!

That's Sayville soccer standout Melanie Drinkwater during Friday night's Exceptional Seniors exhibition match at Bethpage. Melanie had taken a break to, yes, drink water. Now, as a reporter (and someone with a fourth-grader's sense of humor), I would've been remiss to just let that pass. This is the kind of groundbreaking news the community relies on! Melanie was nice enough to pose for the photo. She said she has heard every name pun in the book and "loves it."

In 10 games this season, she had six goals and two assists for the Golden Flashes, who reached the Suffolk Class A final. Drinkwater last night went on to score the deciding goal in Team Suffolk's 2-0 win over Nassau in the second game of the doubleheader.

We can credit her individual talents and the help of her teammates for that, but let's not pretend these pictures and the conversation had nothing to do with it.

One can only imagine that the name was originally given to an ancestor who, perhaps, enjoyed drinking water. And here is Melanie hydrating... like a boss!
