What's it like inside MSG for the Game 2 watch party?
It’s halftime at the Game 2 NBA Finals watch party at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are up 56-52 after trailing most of the game and the crowd at the Garden is ecstatic.
If you didn’t notice that there were no players on the floor, no screaming coaches on the sidelines, no officials running up and down the court, you’d swear you were at a Knicks home playoff game.
The fans absolutely erupt every time the Knicks hit a field goal or a free throw. The crowd chants “DEEEFENSE” every time San Antonio has the ball. The hot dogs still cost $9.50 (!), the beers still cost $25 (!!). There are still ubiquitous plugs for sports betting sites.
Based on the television broadcast from Texas, it appears there are a lot of Knicks fans attending the game in San Antonio. But there is nobody sporting a Spurs jersey at the Garden. There are thousands of people packed into the arena, but if any of them are rooting for the Spurs, they are doing so quietly and privately – perhaps hiding in a bathroom stall.
