AIR FORCE TO CONDUCT FLYOVERS. Don't be alarmed if loud aircraft noises wake you Wednesday morning. It's just a pre-Super Bowl test. The U.S. Air Force will be conducting military exercises over the Hudson River in the Bronx and Lower Westchester beginning at 4:30 a.m. in preparation for Super Bowl XLVIII. The exercise will last about an hour and conclude at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. It will consist of two F-16s, one Citation 550 and one UH-60 helicopter. The aircraft will fly over the Hudson at between 5,000 and 7,000 feet.
LONG BEACH SCHOOL CHANGES. The Long Beach school district will hold a forum tonight about the possibility of closing East Elementary School to students. The school board could vote on reorganization at its Feb. 11 meeting. Today’s forum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Long Beach High School, 322 Lagoon Dr. West in Lido Beach, and is open to the public. N. HEMPSTEAD WATER TREATMENT. The North Hempstead Town Board today will consider issuing a $20.9 million bond to allow the Roslyn Water District to construct a facility to treat a contaminated water well. GLEN COVE CITY COUNCIL. The Glen Cove City Council meets today to consider, among other items, a resolution establishing voluntary separation incentive payments for city employees represented by the CSEA. YAPHANK HEARING ON POWER PLANT. Environmentalists, civic groups and energy activists are preparing to weigh in Tuesday night on a proposal to build one of the largest new power plants on Long Island, a 750-megawatt plant in an industrial section of Yaphank.

GUILTY PLEA IN AX MURDER. Moments before his trial was to begin, a Central Islip man pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing a friend with an ax and keeping the body hidden in his bedroom closet for days.
SENTENCING IN FATAL DWI CRASH. An East Patchogue man was sentenced Tuesday in Central Islip to between 4 and 8 years in prison for the drunken-driving crash that killed his 77-year-old grandfather last summer.
TEEN MISSING. Two teenagers who went missing from a Syosset group home Sunday night were found Tuesday, Nassau County police said. But a third youth, a 15-year-old boy, remains missing.
FLAVOR FLAV IN COURT. Rapper Flavor Flav arrived -- in a limousine -- to First District Court in Hempstead and pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated unlicensed operation, speeding and marijuana possession. The music artist, whose real name is William Drayton, 54, was clocked going 79 mph in his Hyundai about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 9 on the southbound Meadowbrook State Parkway, near the Southern State Parkway, police said. Flavor Flav, who grew up in Freeport and now lives in Las Vegas, told police he was on his way to Roosevelt for his mother's funeral. -- Darran Simon
GIRL, 15, DIES IN CRASH. A 15-year-old girl is dead and her 13-year-old sister is in critical condition after a multivehicle accident Monday night in Valley Stream, Nassau County police said.
FIREFIGHTER INJURED. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday as volunteers from five departments battled a house fire in Central Islip, police and fire officials said.
LOST DOG. Ruff House Rescue, a local animal rescue group, is searching for the owner of a male, brindle pocket pit bull found in Oceanside. If you recognize the dog, pictured below, contact ruffhouserescue@gmail.com.
WATER MAIN BREAKS. The Suffolk County Water Authority was reporting four water main breaks, as of 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
-- BABYLON, Shaw Avenue. About 16 residences affected by a shutdown of water services as crews work on repairs.
-- BAY SHORE, Brook Avenue. About 11 residences affected by a shutdown of water services as crews work on making repairs.
-- EAST SETAUKET, Van Brunt Manor Road. About 30 residents impacted by shutdown of water services related to emergency repairs
-- LINDENHURST, South Fourth Street. About 21 residents impacted by a similar shutdown.
A message posted on the SCWA website warned customers in these areas that they might experience no water service, low water pressure and discolored water for a period of time.
