Budgets due. Town supervisors across Long Island are required to present their budget proposals for 2012 by the end of business Friday.

For the first time, they are operating under the state’s new 2 percent tax cap. Many supervisors have pledged to not increase taxes.

Pumpkin power. Pumpkin growers will gather at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury on Sunday for the annual pumpkin weigh-in to find Long Island’s largest orange orb.
