Where to drum Monday nights in the Hamptons

What began several years back as a casual gathering in Sagaponack of a few local musicians has become a full-out beach party, complete with drums, hula hoops and dancing. You can't beat the setting: As the sun sets over the sand and the waves crash on the shore at Sagg Main Beach, the thud of drums and the chime of triangles resonates to the heart of regulars and newcomers alike.

Starting at 6 p.m., this Monday night throw-down has become "an institution," says Suffolk Legis. Jay Schneiderman. Even though local law enforcement and some residents are divided on whether this impromptu party is a good thing, some East Enders find there is pretty much no better way to celebrate the beauty and abundance of summer in Southampton than dancing in the sand as the sun slips from view and the moon rises.
