Wichita State rolls past Evansville to perfect 27-0
Frantz Massenat had 24 points and seven assists as Drexel beat Hofstra, 74-63, last night in Philadelphia.
Zeke Upshaw had 20 points for Hofstra (8-19, 4-8 Colonial Athletic Association). Jordan Allen scored 10 points, Dion Nesmith had six assists and Stephen Nwaukoni added nine rebounds.
Chris Fouch had 16 points for Drexel (14-11, 6-6), which scored 10 straight points to take a 57-44 lead with 8:39 left.
Wichita State 84, Evansville 68: Ron Baker scored 26 points and Fred VanVleet had 18 points, eight assists and five steals for visiting No. 4 Wichita State. The Shockers (27-0, 14-0 Missouri Valley Conference) remained one of two unbeaten teams in major-college basketball. They are the 21st team in Division I history to go 27-0, a list No. 1 Syracuse could join later this week. D.J. Balentine and Egidiju Mockevicius each scored 19 points for Evansville (11-16, 4-10).
Creighton 101, Villanova 80: Doug McDermott had 39 points and passed Larry Bird for 13th place on the Division I career scoring list with 2,863 points as host No. 18 Creighton (21-4, 11-2 Big East) beat sixth-ranked Villanova (22-3, 10-2). "It's pretty crazy. That's one of my idols," he said. "Imagine if [Bird] had the three-point line and he stayed four years. He would be way ahead of me.'' James Bell had 18 points for the Wildcats.
Nebraska 60, Michigan St. 51: Terran Petteway scored 23 points and Walter Pitchford had 18 as Nebraska (14-10, 6-6 Big Ten) beat host No. 9 Michigan State (21-5, 10-3).
Louisville 102, Rutgers 54: Luke Hancock scored 25 points, including six three-pointers, as host No. 13 Louisville beat the Scarlet Knights (10-16, 4-9 American Athletic Conference). The Cardinals (21-4, 10-2) shot 16-for-30 from beyond the arc.
Wisconsin 75, Michigan 62: Frank Kaminsky had 25 points and 11 rebounds as visiting No. 21 Wisconsin (21-5, 8-5 Big Ten) beat No. 15 Michigan (18-7, 10-3).
Lamar fires Pat Knight. Lamar fired coach Pat Knight, son of Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight, with the Cardinals (3-22, 2-11 Southland Conference) having won only six of 56 games the past two seasons. -- AP
