The wife of a Village of North Hills trustee who died one day after winning election to a seat on the board will take over his term until a special election next June.

Gail Jeffee Cohen was appointed trustee July 20, said Village Administrator Nancy G. Ritirato, who is also clerk/treasurer.

Cohen’s husband of 21 years, Gerard “Gerry” Cohen, died unexpectedly June 22 after winning a four-year seat on the board. He had been appointed to fill a board vacancy last summer.

A special election will be held in June to fill the three-year balance of Cohen’s term, Ritirato said. The next board meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at Village Hall, 1 Shelter Rock Rd.
