Geno Smith went through practice fully, but there is still some question as to whether he will play in Friday’s preseason game against the Steelers. Smith missed last week’s game against Tampa with swelling in his ankle.

Aaron Glenn said it will be a collaborative decision, but Smith has to feel well enough to play, first and foremost.

“We’ll see,” Glenn said. “Every day there’s a management plan for that player. We want to make sure we get our guys ready for Week 1 so whatever we have to do to be able to do that, that’s what we’re going to go.

“If it’s playing in this game, because he feels up to it and he’s ready to go and he wants to be with the other guys, let's go. If it's not playing because we want to continue to be cautious in that situation, we’ll do that. But it's all about how he feels, and then exactly how do we see this going moving forward.”

Smith said the ankle is “getting better every day” and he does think it’s “very beneficial” to get some game reps. But he was non-committal on playing.

“I leave it up to coach,” Smith said. “But my job is to get ready and help this team get ready to be ready to play in Week 1. Whenever I get a chance to play, as I told you guys, I look forward. But I also leave that up to coach.”

Rookie Cade Klubnik started last game for Smith and would again on Friday. Klubnik had a high volume of plays in practice Tuesday.
