BACKGROUND: O'Brien, 56, of Syosset, is also running on the Republican and Conservative lines in the general election. He has been District Court judge in Nassau County District Court, 4th District, since 2000. Since 2009, he has also been acting County Court judge in Nassau, currently assigned to the felony domestic violence and sex offense part. From 1997 to 2000, he was executive assistant to the administrative judge in Nassau County. From 1984 to 1997 he was law secretary to Justice Stuart L. Ain, a judge in the County Court and acting justice of the Supreme Court. From 1982 to 1984 he was an associate attorney with Sandback & Birnbaum in Mineola. He is an adjunct professor of law at LIU Post and Hofstra University. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Fordham University in 1978 and his law degree from St. John's University in 1981. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1982. He is a member of the New York State Unified Court System's Local Courts Advisory Committee and co-chairman of the Voir Dire Committee of the court system's Jury Trial Project.
