The Village of Williston is starting a committee to welcome new residents to the area and inform them about local resources.

The committee will distribute an information booklet to new residents and hold three “coffee talks,” or meet-and-greets, per year, committee chairwoman Doreen Ehrbar said.

She said new residents will receive a formal invitation to attend the gatherings, where they can ask questions about the village and meet one another.

The booklet – an idea she said she got when her son moved to Texas and received a similar welcome package – will contain a letter from the mayor and information about village government, churches, schools and other organizations.

Ehrbar said she got the idea for the committee four years ago when she served as village mayor.

The committee is hoping to hold its first “coffee talk” in December.
