Wisconsin battle emits shock waves

Regarding "Defiance continues in Capitol" [News, Feb. 28]: Wisconsin's Gov. Scott Walker is showing the world where the Republican Party stands on workers' rights, America's poor, the elderly and the middle class.
The GOP wants the workers, the poor and the elderly to foot the bill for the troubles created by the previous four Republican presidential administrations. It reasoned that the working class and the elderly can't give the campaign gifts that the rich and corporate America can.
I find it difficult to equate today's GOP with that of President Abraham Lincoln.

I would like to thank the police officers working at the Save the American Dream rally in Manhattan on Feb. 26. It was a rousing demonstration in support of the union workers who are under attack in Wisconsin and across the country, and all the officers seemed happy to be there.
Too often since 9/11, democratic demonstrations have been equated with terrorism. But the events of February in Egypt, Wisconsin and around the world remind us that we are all in this together.
I was proud to demonstrate for the hardworking, underpaid, dedicated police officers, firemen, teachers, doctors and nurses who make such a big difference in our collective life. What would we do without them?

So happy to see labor unions across this country joining together to voice their dissatisfaction with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. I for one don't understand why elected officials keep going after these hardworking men and women.
We are the people who built this country's roads and infrastructure, cars and aircraft. We teach your children. We put our lives on the line to save your life. We protect you doing the jobs most people would not want or could not do.
We are the first to be asked to accept pay cuts or to take furloughs or to make other concessions. Now they want to take away our collective bargaining rights. Without us, there is no America.
