The body of a naked woman was found on a Brooklyn beach early Sunday, New York City police said.

The body was discovered at Gerritsen Beach in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn, at Gerritsen and Lois avenues at about 7:15 a.m., said police, who would not detail what condition the body was in or how it was found. Police told The Associated Press that the body had been burned.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, but the medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death, police said. She has not yet been identified.

The area was hard hit by superstorm Sandy on Oct. 29, but police say the death was not storm-related since the body wasn't decomposed, the AP said.
