Woman to be honored for Alzheimer’s work

A New Hyde Park woman who uses a therapy dog to comfort people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease will be honored Thursday in Melville.
Nanette Palermo is one of 15 people who will receive the first annual Robert and Marjorie Schreibman Caregiving Award at the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation's Coping and Caring Conference and Awards Luncheon at the Hilton Long Island.
The Schreibman Award recognizes family caregivers whose efforts result in a more positive care experience for a person with dementia.
“Knowing Nanette for the past five years, I am aware of her extreme dedication and devotion in caregiving towards her mother,” Bob Schreibman said in a news release. “Despite the time consumed with her mother, she still finds time to volunteer at the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation with her therapy dog, Cassie, demonstrating deep compassion and patience.”
