Breast cancer patients and survivors are invited to a free workshop about maintaining balance and core stability to help maximize movements and prevent injury.
The event, hosted by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, will be held at Adelphi University’s Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Ave., Garden City on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Workshop attendees will learn techniques that can help them transition from one activity to another safely and without undue strain. Balance exercises and movement awareness are a perfect combination along with strength training to maintain stability and poise at any age, organizers said.
Instructor Margaret M. Bores, a licensed physical therapy assistant, certified personal trainer and breast self-exam lecturer, will lead the workshop. She is also a breast cancer survivor, organizers said.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes and bring a mat or towel and bottled water. Reservations are required by calling 516-877-4325.
The breast cancer program, established in 1980, provides information and support to breast cancer patients, their families and friends.
