Suffolk County Legis. Jon Cooper is hosting a workshop June 14 at the Huntington Public Library to provide tips on how to protect against cyberbullying.

Cooper, the Legislature’s majority leader, said that since he introduced a bill in April to criminalize cyberbullying, he’s been swamped with calls from concerned parents and others with cyberbullying experiences.

“What became abundantly clear after listening to them is that, in addition to criminalizing this vicious behavior, we also need to teach people how to protect themselves and cope,” Cooper said in a statement.

Cooper will be joined at the library by experts from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Computer Crimes Unit and the counseling group Response of Suffolk County.

The program starts at 6:45 p.m. at the Huntington Public Library, 338 Main St., Huntington.
