From the archives: 70 years ago, German surrender reported by radio

London, May 7 (INS)- Admiral Karl Doenitz has ordered unconditional surrender of all German fighting forces, the Flensburg Radio announced this afternoon.
New York, May 7 (INS)-The Free Danish radio said today that “It has just been announced that the German forces in Norway have capitulated.”
The announcement, made at 7:10 A.M. EWT, was recorded by the FCC.
Radio Tokyo quoted the “Scandinavian News Agency” as reporting that “today the German forces that occupied Norway surrendered unconditionally.”
The Tokyo broadcast also was heard by the FCC.
The Danish Radio followed its transmission with the playing of the Norwegian national anthem.
(The Free Danish Radio, the FCC reported, said at 7:10 A.M. EWT that, “it has just been announced that the German forces in Norway have capitulated.”)
