That name on your birth certificate can haunt you the rest of your life.

An unusual or unpopular name can traumatize a child all the way into adulthood, new research shows. And parents often come to regret those novel picks.

One out of five parents later wished they chose a different name for their little bundle of joy, according to a poll of 3,000 British parents conducted last month.

Other findings:

Boys with names traditionally given to girls are more likely to act out as they grow older, David Figlio from Northwestern University found.

High-achieving girls with masculine names are more likely to study math or science, Figlio found. - amNewYork
