The top U.S. bishop, Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, has told a meeting of the pope and his fellow cardinals that they must spread the faith with joy, love — and blood if necessary.

Dolan, archbishop of New York, gave the keynote address Friday to a gathering of the cardinals who will participate in the ceremony Saturday to bring Dolan and 21 other cardinals into the elite men's club that will elect the next pope.

Dolan said the Vatican No. 2 had told him to speak about spreading the faith in a secular world since New York was the "capital of a secular culture." Dolan said while there's "graphic secularism" in the Big Apple, "it is also a very religious city."

He said cardinals wear scarlet to show they are willing to shed blood for the faith.

While News 12, the major cable networks and local stations are expected to cover the elevation of Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan to Cardinal in Rome throughout the day, there are four major destinations to watch the coverage live early Saturday morning.

Telecare, the television station of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, which is carried on Cablevision ch. 29, will air the ceremony - the "Ordinary Public Consistatory for New Cardinals from Rome" - beginning at 4:30, and ending at 6:30 a.m.

In addition, Eternal Word Television, or EWTN, on Cablevision Ch. 135, will air a 150-minute special.

Among local stations, both WABC/7 and WCBS/2 will both air 90-minute specials beginning at 4:30.a.m.
