Israeli police say Palestinian militants have fired two rockets at Israel's south and one hit a kindergarten.

This came just hours after Israel's military chief warned that Israel would have to carry out an offensive in Gaza to stop the rocket salvos.

The kindergarten was empty at the time of the rocket strike, which destroyed a storage shed next to the building. A second rocket landed in an open area nearby.

Earlier Tuesday, Israel's military chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, told a parliamentary committee that Israel will have to go toward a "broader offensive action" if the rocket fire continues.

A meeting participant relayed Gantz's comments. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the session was closed.
