THAILAND: 3 more Iranians questioned

Three more Iranian citizens were questioned Monday for possible links to an alleged bomb plot that was discovered in Bangkok on Valentine's Day. Two men and a woman were found Sunday during a search of an apartment that had been rented by an Iranian woman who is also wanted in the case, police said. The alleged plot was discovered after an accidental explosion ripped through a house that police said had been used by the would-be bombers. Three men seen fleeing the house have been detained, and arrest warrants are out for two more who are believed to have returned to Tehran. One of the those questioned was Madani Seyed Mehrded, 33, who police said had been in contact with other detained suspects, including an Iranian man who blew his legs off by mistake as he fled police on Feb. 14. The explosions in Bangkok came a day after attacks in India and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia in which bombers tried to hit Israeli targets.

CUBA: 100 dissidents detained

More than 100 Cuban dissidents were arrested briefly over the weekend in a multipronged campaign to prevent public demonstrations on the anniversaries of the deaths of five Castro opponents, activists reported Monday. Former political prisoner Angel Moya and nine other government opponents also were detained Monday and there was no word on their whereabouts, said his wife, Bertha Soler, leader of the dissident Ladies in White group. "There's a kind of state of paranoia" in which security agents are sweeping up anyone they consider a threat, said activist Elizardo Sanchez Santa Cruz. Most were freed hours or days later.

YEMEN: Saleh might go to Ethiopia

Aides to Ali Abdullah Saleh said Monday that the ousted president plans to go into exile in Ethiopia, as pressures mounted on him to leave for fear of new cycles of violence. The aides said Saleh will leave within two days along with some of his family members to live in a villa in a suburb of Addis Ababa.
