MYANMAR: Power shortage protests grow
Protesters against electricity outages clashed with police Thursday and several were arrested. The spreading protests, which began Sunday, are a test to reforms by the civilian government of President Thein Sein after decades of military rule. Six people were detained after scuffles broke out but released several hours later, he said. Protests in Mandalay spread to four other locations. About 100 people held a candlelight vigil for the second night in Yangon.
