ISRAEL: Worker slain near Sinai
Gunmen who crossed into Israel from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula killed a worker assigned to build a border fence early Monday, and two of the assailants died in a clash with soldiers who responded to the incident, the Israeli army said. The attack some 20 miles south of the Gaza Strip, near the border community of Nitzana, underscored Israeli concerns about worsening security conditions in Sinai, where government control has weakened since the Egyptian revolution last year.
AFGHANISTAN: 'Insider attack' kills American
In the latest likely case of an insider attack, an American service member was killed and several others injured Monday when individuals dressed in Afghan police uniforms turned their guns on them in the south, U.S. officials said. Jamie Graybeal, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, said three Afghan shooters are being sought. Although they were wearing police uniforms, it was not yet certain whether they were actually police.
CANADA: Body parts suspect returns
A Canadian porn actor suspected in the dismemberment of a Chinese student arrived Monday via Canadian military transport from Germany. Luka Magnotta did not fight his extradition. He is suspected of killing Jun Lin, 33, and sending body parts to Canadian political parties and schools. The head is still missing. Magnotta, 29, will appear in court Tuesday, Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafrenière said. Magnotta was caught reading stories about himself at an Internet cafe in Berlin. Lin's torso was found in a suitcase at a garbage dump outside Magnotta's Montreal apartment building. A package containing body parts first arrived at Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa. Another addressed to the Liberal Party was found at a postal facility. A week later, a foot and hand were mailed to two schools in Vancouver. DNA tests have confirmed that the parts belonged to Lin, a Chinese student at Concordia University in Montreal.
